Fundy Rose: Relax on the New Brunswick – Nova Scotia ferry

Fundy Rose FerryWith family in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, we do a lot of travelling between the two provinces. Usually we drive, but if we’re headed to the Annapolis Valley we try to take the ferry instead – it saves time and lets us stretch our legs instead of being cooped up in the car. Thanks to Bay Ferries Ltd, we had the chance this summer to check out the new ferry, the Fundy Rose, which replaced the aging Princess of Acadia this year. It felt a little odd, since we had spent so many hours on the Princess of Acadia, but the Fundy Rose impressed right from the time we stepped into the passenger compartment.

Great Vietnamese food in Bedford: I Love Pho Restaurant

I Love Pho Restaurant in Bedford, Nova ScotiaI developed a taste for Vietnamese food when a small restaurant (sadly no longer there) popped up down the street from my condo in Clayton Park about ten years ago. Four years spent in Calgary – which boasts, I think, more Vietnamese restaurants than it does Tim Hortons – solidified it into an addiction. Luckily my husband shares my love of Vietnamese food (we’re working on our daughter), unluckily Fredericton’s offerings are… inadequate.

So when I spotted I Love Pho Restaurant during a vacation run on the Bedford Highway (long story), an immediate craving took over, and I knew we had to give it a try. Continue reading

The best coffee in Cavendish: Samuel’s Coffee House

The best latte I've ever had - from Samuel's Coffee HOuse in CavendishWe love our annual trip to the Otentiks in the Prince Edward Island National Park, we really do. But because we only “camp” once a year, I haven’t invested in a french press, and instant coffee is a vile substance that barely reaches the bar of enabling me to function. Staring at my mug of insta-vile on morning two of our trip, I suddenly remembered the kind and helpful Twitterer who last year suggested we try Samuel’s Coffee House in Avonlea Village for coffee. Delta Fredericton

Every once in a while, you need an escape right in your own hometown. My husband recently had a playdate with his brother, and as much as I ordinarily appreciate both video games and beer, it seemed wise for our 4 year old daughter and I to vacate the premises for the evening (more fun for everyone that way). So, we accepted the Delta’s offer to come check out their facilities for ourselves.

Now, I’m quite familiar with the Delta. It’s a lovely hotel, and hosts a lot of interesting events (the Fredericton Beer Run, and a great Mother’s Day buffet, to name just a couple). But I’ve never stayed there, so this seemed like a good chance to check out the hotel from a new viewpoint.

The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café: a soothing escape in Brackley Beach, PEI

Gardens at the Dunes Studio Gallery & CafeAt the intersection of beauty and deliciousness, wonderful things happen. The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café, with its stunning gardens, locally crafted art, pottery, and jewelry, and intriguing café offerings made it onto my must-do list over two years ago. Unfortunately our 2013 trip to Prince Edward Island wasn’t quite long enough to squeeze it in, and it took two years for us to get back to the island. The Dunes was worth the wait. Continue reading
