I developed a taste for Vietnamese food when a small restaurant (sadly no longer there) popped up down the street from my condo in Clayton Park about ten years ago. Four years spent in Calgary – which boasts, I think, more Vietnamese restaurants than it does Tim Hortons – solidified it into an addiction. Luckily my husband shares my love of Vietnamese food (we’re working on our daughter), unluckily Fredericton’s offerings are… inadequate.
So when I spotted I Love Pho Restaurant during a vacation run on the Bedford Highway (long story), an immediate craving took over, and I knew we had to give it a try. Continue reading

At the intersection of beauty and deliciousness, wonderful things happen. The Dunes Studio Gallery & Café, with its stunning gardens, locally crafted art, pottery, and jewelry, and intriguing café offerings made it onto my must-do list over two years ago. Unfortunately our 2013 trip to Prince Edward Island wasn’t quite long enough to squeeze it in, and it took two years for us to get back to the island. The Dunes was worth the wait. Continue reading

Confession: I’ve never had a full-on German meal before. I’ve driven by the Old Black Forest Restaurant near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia for years and always vaguely thought I might stop in, but each time the draw of Magnolia’s Grill has been too great.
Our recent discovery that Magnolia’s is closed every Sunday, however, provided just the opportunity I needed – and Gary, who visited Germany in the ’80s, didn’t need any convincing. Continue reading
